Why A Squat Rack?

A squat rack has a number of uses, making is one of the most valuable pieces of equipment to own.  If you are serious about building muscle and getting a lot stronger, you absolutely need a squat rack or a power rack.  Depending on your goals, and your level of commitment, will determine whether a squat rack or a power rack is right for you.

Besides the obvious squat, there are a number of other big-time muscle-building movements you can do on a squat rack. The squat is the king of all leg exercises, and some say of all exercises.  Front squats, hack squats, sissy squats, and even jump squats, can all be done on a rack.  You can do rack pulls as well if you grabbed the Body Solid Multi Press Rack.  Depending on what you want to do with a squat rack will determine which you you get.

Placing a bench in the squat rack provides the uprights to hold a bar for bench pressing.  The safety bars of a power rack also provide a spotter for benching when you don’t have a workout partner.  Incline bench presses can be done in the rack as well.  You will just need to grab an adjustable bench to place between the squat rack.

Military presses, either standing or seated, are also very common in the rack. The rack allows for easy placement of the bar across the front of the shoulders to begin the lift, and an easier return of the weight to the supports, as opposed to having to lower it all the way to the ground if you don’t have a rack. The energy saved by having the weight at shoulder height to begin with translates to more repetitions and more growth for the shoulders.

Whether you want a used squat rack, or are trying to build a homemade squat rack, it makes sense to check out the ones listed above because we did a lot of research to see which was the best squat rack.  If you want a squat rack for sale, well, you’re in luck because all the ones listed above are for sale.  Another thing to consider is the Powerline squat rack if you want a used squat rack.  The reason for this is, the Powerline squat rack is a cheap squat rack.  While the Body Solid squat rack is more expensive, it also has spotter arms and can hold a lot more weight.  You also won’t need a weight tree which is something to consider if you have four hundred pounds of plates.  Also, a bench press squat rack is a great idea if you want to check out the Pendlay Elite Squat Rack because those are some quality pieces of weight lifting equipment.  A squat rack cage would basically be the power racks we listed above, however if you want a home squat rack or the best squat rack available, try out the Pendlay Elite squat rack.  It is our best bench and squat rack available, although it is a high quality squat rack.

While squat stands provide no support, they are still ideal for a lot of people because of price and space.  However some people are looking for a squat machine where the bar is guided down a set path and this is a pretty safe way to squat, although there is some debate about following the same path repeatedly.  However there are very cool squat machines out there that allow the bar to travel freely.  Another reason people like the squat stand is because it is suitable for a lot of different lifts and easy to use.  However, if I had the room and money, I would get a Powertec power rack and a Pendlay Elite Squat Rack.  The reason is I would need the Pendlay Elite Squat rack for my Olympic lifts while the Powertec would be perfect when I don’t have a spotter and want to move some heavy weight or do rack pulls.

The reason people search for squat stands on the internet is because they want to buy squat stand right now, and want to free shipping with their squat rack.  A squat rack with free shipping is ideal, since the squat rack, squat stands or power rack weigh so much.  While a Smith Machine has been around for awhile, a lot of people want a free standing squat rack.  Commericial gym equipment means high quality equipment and there is where you should be checking out the Powertec power rack or the Pendlay Elite squat rack.  However, the Body Solid Multi Press Rack is also made to last a lifetime.  All of these have multi-year guarantees, which is great when spending a lot on a squat rack.

Squat Rack vs Power Rack

Having a good squat rack also allows for power cleans and hang cleans.  Make sure the supports or safety bars can be set low enough to allow a full range of motion.  Partial repetitions of dead lifts can be performed in a rack as well.  The safety bars allow for the weight to be set at various heights to blast through weak points in the lift.  Shrugs for the trap muscles, are also easier in a squat rack.  The weight can be placed at a height near knee level so it does not have to be lifted as far to get into the starting position. Most power racks also come with an attached pull up bar for doing pull ups which are great for back and bicep development, an advantage over a squat rack.
